Obituary for Harold Gordon Myhre

Surrounded by family Harold entered God’s embrace, passing away in peace at his home on November 16, 2009.  Harold was born on January 8th, 1928 at Argyle, Minnesota to Joseph and Inga (Hendrickson) Myhre.  He attended school at Argyle, Walcott, North Dakota and Stephen, Minnesota, the latter from which he graduated high school in 1945.  He received a BSC Accounting degree from the University of North Dakota in 1950.  During the Korean War he entered military service, training extensively in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering for infantry front line and behind enemy line operations.  He served as platoon leader for the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon of the 160th Infantry Division.  He returned to the University of North Dakota and graduated from law school with a Juris Doctor degree in 1954.  He took great pride in his characterization as a “good country lawyer”, practicing law in northwest Minnesota for 37 years.  He was admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in
Minnesota as well as the United States Supreme Court.  Known for being diligent, hard working and thorough, he served the client and community.

He enjoyed his family, camping, nature, mountain vistas, hunting, navigating the Lake of the Woods, all things Norwegian, the study of history, and a good conversation.  He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran in Warren and joined the congregation of Lord of Life Lutheran in Sun City West, Arizona.  He was a long time member of the American Legion, Shriners, Masonic Lodge, Elks, Torske Klubben, VFW and the Minnesota Historical Society.

He is survived by his beloved wife Nita who was at his side, five loving children, Gretchen (Myhre) Anderson, her husband Dwight; Justin Myhre, his wife Kim; Christopher Myhre and his wife Suzan; Erik Myhre and his wife Wendy; and Joseph Myhre and his wife Jill.  He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, Lydia, Soren Tuvshin, Dahlaihuu, Megan, Tanner, Conner, Jessica, Grace, Michael, Paige, Maxwell, Rachel, step-grandsons Christopher and Richard Conn, his brother Earl Myhre Atty, and stepdaughter Nanda Conn.  He is predeceased by his parents, sister Monica Oftel, RN and his brothers Dr. James Myhre, as well as Donald and Raymond Myhre, both of whom died in childhood.  Since his retirement in 1990 he has resided at Warroad, Florida, California, finally settling at Sun City West, Arizona where he and Nita have been Arizona residents for the past 10 years.  His legacy to his grandchildren and all those who were touched by his life will be vision, determination, sacrifice and love.

Services will be held December 11th at the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel in St Paul, MN at 12 noon with a committal at the Fort Snelling National Cemetary at 2 PM.

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
